Ironing of shirts

Many people find it annoying to iron shirts and therefore buy iron-free shirts - But even iron-free shirts are only iron-free to a certain extent. Ironing shirts doesn't have to be a chore. With the right technique, it only takes 3-4 minutes - so enjoy the calm and the moment.

How to iron your shirt

It doesn't take much equipment to get your shirt perfectly smooth and nice. What you need is:

  • An iron
  • An ironing board
  • A sleeve ironing board - can be omitted if you don't have one

Step-by-step Guide: How to iron your shirt:

1. Check the washing instructions:
Before you start, it is important that you look at the washing instructions to see how much heat the shirt can withstand, so that you can set your iron correctly. We recommend that you iron your AWT shirts at one point, i.e. 100 degrees.

2. Start with the shirt collar:
Button up the collar, lay it flat on the ironing board and iron on the inside of the collar. When you are finished, fold the collar down again and iron the outside so that the collar has a nice fold.

3. Sleeves and cuffs:
Button up the cuffs and lay them flat on the ironing board and iron. Lay the sleeve on a sleeve ironing board and iron the sleeve from seam to seam. If you don't have a sleeve ironing board, make sure the sleeve lies as flat as possible to avoid annoying press folds on the back.

4. Proceed to the carrier:
What is a support piece? The support piece is the piece of fabric that sits at the top of the shirt between the collar and your shoulder blade. It can be difficult to iron, so you should take it before moving on to the rest of the shirt. Button the shirt all the way up so that the yoke can lie flat on the ironing board and iron. It may be necessary to straighten it a little while ironing.

5. Iron the front piece:
Start med at stryge stolpelukningen . Det er vigtigt at skjorten er knappet op, så du ikke stryger ovenpå knapperne. Stryg derefter den ene side af skjorten og så den anden. Det er vigtigt, at du ikke presser spidsen af strygejernet ned mod stoffet men sørger for at lægge mere vægt på den bagerste del af strygejernet. Sørg hele tiden for at stoffet ligger fladt.

6. Iron the back piece:
Turn the shirt over and iron the back piece. Make sure the shirt is as smooth as possible and iron in gentle movements.

7. Cooling:
Hang the shirt on a hanger and let it cool before putting it on. Remember that the shirt must be completely cooled before you put it on.

Why iron sleeves and shirt collar first?

It is easiest to start with the sleeves and shirt collar first, as they can then hang outside the ironing board, where they will avoid being wrinkled. On the other hand, if you remove the sleeves at the end, you risk creasing the already ironed shirt, especially if you use a sleeve ironing board.

Should I iron my shirt with or without steam?

It depends on the quality. If you are ironing a cotton shirt, you should use steam, as it is easier to iron when it is damp. Our shirts are made of viscose - so here we recommend that you iron without steam, as it gives a better result.

Is an ironing board necessary for sleeves?

The answer is NO – A sleeve ironing board is not necessary. You can easily iron a sleeve without it. But it's faster and easier to get the sleeve neat by using a sleeve ironing board. But if you don't have one, you'll be fine without it.

We hope you can use the guide. If you still don't feel like ironing your shirt, here are some tips on how to reduce wrinkles.

How to iron your shirt without an iron:

  • Make sure the buttons are closed and wash the shirt inside out
  • Wash your shirt/shirt blouse on a program with low revolutions (400-600 rpm)
  • Let the shirt/blouse dry on a hanger. Be sure to close all buttons
  • Gently tug and pull the shirt/blouse so that it straightens out

It is important that you do not tumble dry your shirt/blouse.

Have fun whether you choose to iron your shirt or just want to reduce wrinkles.

If your recommendation is that the shirt should not be steamed, I think it would be beneficial to put it at the very beginning of the text - for the sake of the customer.
